Finding Freedom.

The key passage for this message is Exodus 4:1-17. This message is part two of a series titled “Coach U.” To view part one, click here.

Would you like to enjoy a life free of anxiety, addiction, anger, and resentment? You can be released from addictions, anxieties, and burdens. Hold on to the promises of God; it is to freedom that God has called you. God called you to be in a relationship with Him. In this message, Finding Freedom, we explore Moses’ relationship with God and discover how God’s word speaks to us today.

Moses, like all of us, experienced roadblocks to freedom. His sinful nature caused him to run from God. Just like our sinful nature causes us to run from Him. As we follow along in Moses’ story, we see six roadblocks that kept Moses from finding freedom:

  1. Unbelief — he doubted God’s plan.
  2. Low self-worth — he felt like a has-been, a misfit, a nobody.
  3. Fear — he was afraid of rejection and failure.
  4. Rebellious spirit — he kept trying to have God use someone else.
  5. Unforgiveness — he experienced deep pain from being taken by the Egyptians, away from his family and heritage. He resented the Israelites because they abandoned him.
  6. Stinking thinking — His past had trained him to no longer believe in the possibility of a better life. Pain and disappointment often made him accept a life of just getting by. Sound familiar?

There is good news!

He’s offering you freedom from your past pain, your current anxieties, and every unnecessary limitation that is holding you back from what God wants for your future. Here’s the great news – through Christ, we can experience freedom; He promises it.

To His disciples, Jesus said, “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32). He continues and puts the exclamation point on it, “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36). As you follow Jesus you will walk in a new level of freedom. You will continuously grow in the abundant life that He has for you.

The apostles testify to this. “For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves” (Colossians 1:13) “…because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death” (Romans 8:2).

Where it all starts is in your relationship with Jesus.

Your relationship with Jesus is a living, vibrant relationship. Remember, it is a RELATIONSHIP, not a RELIGION.

Real freedom is found when you renew your mind.

The next step is to renew your mind by spending time with Him in the Word and let him take you out of your “Midian mindset”. To move forward and find freedom in your relationship, it will take time in His word. Paul promises that we will be transformed by the renewing of our minds.

In Romans 12:1-2, Paul says, “Don’t let the world conform your minds but be transformed by the renewing of your minds in Christ Jesus.” Live in the word of God and let it shape your thinking so you can move forward in His plan for your life. Let Him start to change the way you’ve been wired. God didn’t bring you this far to keep you stuck. He called you to freedom in Christ. Whatever is holding you back, lay it down.

Trust in God’s plan and his help.

When you say yes to the Lord, he will help you. As we trust the Lord, he will empower us with his spirit, and with the help of other people, we will move forward with freedom. You can find freedom, but only if you spend time with the Lord.

God has a great plan for your life.

Our lead pastors, Eddie and Jessica Cole have had a heart for Hampton Roads for many years.  While dating – more than 25 years ago! – they were visiting Jessica’s parents in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake and started dreaming about planting a church in the area.

It wasn’t until 2020, while Eddie was serving as a denominational Vice President in Minneapolis, that it became clear God was calling them to take a big leap of faith.  They had helped others plant churches for years – now God began to confirm it was their turn. Within months they knew the time had arrived, they were supposed to plant the church they dreamed about in Hampton Roads.

Throughout their entire relationship, they have been doing ministry together. Most of this time was spent leading Salem Church in Staten Island, New York, and doing regional and national denominational work.

They are known for their passion for helping people experience the love and power of God. They have committed themselves to use all their God-given resources to help as many people as possible joyfully embrace and fulfill God’s purpose in their life.
